The Use of Scripture: Guarding What Matters Most

guard heart

"I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame."

Psalm 119:31

Imagine a child spinning around in their parent's arms, holding on with all their might, declaring 'I'm not letting go!' That parent would want to protect their child from any harm.

This picture captures how we should cling to God's Word. There's an enemy actively working to snatch Scripture away from your heart and mind, to steal its influence from your life.

Just as you would protect something precious, you must intentionally guard God's Word in your heart. This protection involves more than just reading; it means choosing companions who encourage your relationship with Scripture rather than distract from it.

One of the most important things you can do is to choose wisely in those who will be your companions. Find people who will encourage you to seek after the Word of God and protect God's Word in your life.

The people you spend time with will either strengthen your commitment to God's Word or weaken it. When you surround yourself with those who value Scripture, you create a protective environment where God's Word can take root and flourish.

Consider your closest relationships - are they helping you hold tightly to God's Word, or are they subtly pulling you away from its influence?

Reflection Question

Who in your life encourages your engagement with God's Word, and how can you spend more intentional time with them?
